Think about that. God intentionally designed a creature whose whole life is freedom. No harness. No schedule. No master. The wild donkey doesn't commute. Doesn't check in. "Is the wild ox willing to work for you? Will he sleep in your barn?

Can you strap him to a plow with ropes? Will he follow behind you, plowing your fields? Will you rely on him just because he's strong — hand over your hard work and trust him to bring in your harvest? Do you honestly believe he'll haul your grain back to your threshing floor?"

The answer to every one of those questions is no. And that's God's point. Strength exists in the world that you will never control. You can see it. You can admire it. But you can't own it. The wild ox is powerful enough to do the work of ten laborers — and he will never, ever cooperate. Some things in this world are strong precisely because they don't serve you.

"The ostrich flaps her wings with pride — but they're not the wings of a stork. They won't carry her anywhere.

She lays her eggs right on the ground and lets the dirt keep them warm. She forgets that a foot could crush them. She forgets that a wild animal could trample them. She's harsh with her young, as if they weren't even hers. She doesn't care if all that labor was for nothing.
