A New Heaven and a New Earth 🌍

had witnessed the old world come apart. The judgments. The . And then — this:

John saw a new Heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Even the sea was gone. And he saw the holy city — a new Jerusalem — coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride dressed for her wedding day.

Then a loud voice rang out from the throne:

"Look — God's home is now with humanity. He will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be right there with them as their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. No more grief. No more crying. No more pain. The old order of things has passed away."

The voice didn't say would explain the tears. It said he would wipe them away. Personally. Like a parent with a child who's been crying for a long time. And — the thing that has haunted every human being since the beginning — simply stops. Not defeated temporarily. Ended.

And notice the direction. The city comes down. doesn't pull humanity away from the . He moves in. The whole Bible has been building toward this — not an escape from the world, but the renewal of it. God with us. That's the endgame.

Making All Things New ✨

Then the one seated on the throne spoke directly:

He who was seated on the throne said, "Look — I am making all things new."

Then he told John, "Write this down. These words are trustworthy and true."

And he said, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega — the beginning and the end. To anyone who is thirsty, I will give freely from the spring of the water of life. The one who conquers will inherit all of this, and I will be their God and they will be my child."

He didn't say " making all new things." He said " making all things new." He's not scrapping the project. He's taking everything that exists — every broken relationship, every scarred — and restoring it into what it was always supposed to be.

Then the tone shifts:

"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable — murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idol worshipers, and all liars — their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. That is the second death."

The same who to wipe away tears also draws a line. The new isn't a place where everything goes. That tension — infinite and absolute in the same God — is something the Bible never resolves neatly. It holds both and asks you to sit with them.

The Bride of the Lamb 💎

Then one of the seven — one of the same who had carried out the final — came to :

The angel said, "Come. I'll show you the Bride — the wife of the Lamb."

And the angel carried John away in the Spirit to a massive, towering mountain. From there, John saw the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. It had the glory of God radiating from it — a brilliance like the rarest jewel imaginable, like jasper, clear as crystal.

The city had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and at each gate stood an angel. Inscribed on the gates were the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. Three gates on the east. Three on the north. Three on the south. Three on the west. The wall had twelve foundations, and on them were written the names of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb.

The angel said "let me show you the Bride" — and then showed a city. Throughout , the people of are described as a bride being prepared for her husband. Here, that bride takes the form of a city — a place of belonging, of permanence, of home.

The twelve gates carry the names of tribes — the old people. The twelve foundations carry the names of the — the people. From forward, everyone who has belonged to is built into the structure. No one is left out.

A City Beyond Imagination 🏙️

The angel pulled out a golden measuring rod and started taking dimensions:

The city was a perfect cube — its length, width, and height all equal. The angel measured it: about 1,400 miles in every direction. The wall measured 144 cubits thick — roughly 200 feet — by human measurement, which was also the angel's measurement.

The wall was built of jasper. The city itself was pure gold — but gold so pure it was transparent, like glass. The foundations of the wall were decorated with every kind of precious stone: jasper, sapphire, agate, emerald, onyx, carnelian, chrysolite, beryl, topaz, chrysoprase, jacinth, amethyst. Each of the twelve gates was carved from a single pearl. And the main street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

A cube 1,400 miles on every side — roughly New York to Dallas in every direction, including straight up. The numbers aren't architectural specifications. They're meant to overwhelm.

The only other cube in was the Most in the — the inner room where presence dwelled, so sacred only the could enter once a year. The entire city is now that room. Every square inch is the presence of God. No velvet rope. The whole city is holy ground.

No Temple, No Sun, No Night 🔆

Then noticed something that would have shocked any first-century Jewish reader:

John looked, and there was no Temple in the city. None. Because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb — they are the temple.

The city didn't need the sun or the moon. The glory of God was its light, and the Lamb was its lamp. The nations will walk by that light. The kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. The gates will never be shut — because there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought inside.

But nothing impure will ever enter it. No one who practices dishonesty or evil. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

For audience, no was unthinkable. It was the center of everything — , identity, access to . And John is saying: you don't need it anymore. and have merged. God isn't behind a curtain. He's everywhere you look.

No sun. No moon. No night. Every light source we've known is a placeholder for something brighter. In the new , himself is the light. No shadows. Nothing hidden. The gates never close — not because there's no danger, but because there's no fear.

That's the ending. Not floating on clouds. A city with streets and gates and foundations and light. A place where lives with his people, face to face, with nothing between them. Every story in the Bible has been walking toward this moment. It's not a metaphor. It's a .
