John the Baptist baptizes Jesus in the Jordan River, and God's voice declares him as his Son.
Jesus travels from Galilee to be baptized by John, who initially protests that he's unworthy. As Jesus comes up from the water, the heavens open, the Spirit descends like a dove, and a voice from heaven says, 'This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'
Matthew
The Voice in the Wilderness
A wild preacher shows up in the desert calling everyone to change their lives. The religious establishment comes to check him out — and gets wrecked. Then Jesus walks into the river, and heaven itself opens up to confirm who he is.
Mark
The Starting Gun
Mark doesn't ease into the story — he sprints. In one chapter, Jesus gets baptized, survives the wilderness, calls his first followers, and starts healing everyone in sight. This is the gospel with the volume turned up.
Luke
The Voice in the Wilderness
John the Baptist explodes onto the scene with a message nobody wants to hear but everybody needs. Then Jesus gets baptized, heaven opens, and Luke traces his family line all the way back to Adam — and to God.
