The night before facing Esau, Jacob wrestles a mysterious figure until dawn and refuses to let go without a blessing.
Jacob is terrified about reuniting with the brother he cheated. He sends his family ahead and stays alone by the Jabbok River. A man appears and they wrestle all night. The figure dislocates Jacob's hip but can't break free. Jacob demands a blessing, and the figure renames him Israel — 'he struggles with God.' Jacob walks away limping, but transformed.
