What Happened

Jacob is alone, on the run, sleeping with a rock for a pillow — and God meets him there. In the dream, God stands above a stairway connecting heaven and earth and repeats the Abrahamic promises directly to Jacob. When Jacob wakes up, he's shaken. He names the place Bethel — 'house of God' — and makes a vow to follow the Lord.
