At the close of the wilderness journey Moses catalogs the ideal northern boundary of the Promised Land — from Mount Hor on the Mediterranean coast through Lebo-hamath Zedad Ziphron to Hazar-enan in the upper Beqaa Valley — far beyond what Israel ever historically held.
Numbers 34:7-9 records Moses's catalog of the divine ideal northern boundary of the Promised Land: "And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you mount Hor: From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad: And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazar-enan: this shall be your north border." The line runs north from Mount Hor on the Mediterranean through Lebo-hamath and Zedad to Ziphron and the springs of Hazar-enan in the upper Beqaa Valley — borders Israel only briefly approached under David and Solomon and never permanently held.
