Presentation at the Temple

Following the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. There they meet Simeon, an old man who had been promised by the Holy Spirit that he would see the Messiah before he died. Simeon takes the baby in his arms and praises God, but also warns Mary that a sword will pierce her own soul. The prophet Anna, who has worshiped in the temple for decades, also recognizes the child and begins telling everyone about him.
