The Hittites establish a powerful kingdom in central Anatolia, building an empire that will eventually rival Egypt itself.
Around 1650 BCE, King Hattusili I united the Hittite city-states of central Turkey into a formidable kingdom with its capital at Hattusa. His grandson Mursili I would go on to sack Babylon in 1595 BCE. The Hittites were among the first to master ironworking and became one of the great powers of the ancient Near East — the same 'sons of Heth' mentioned in Genesis.
