Hittite king Mursili I marches his army over 1,000 miles to sack Babylon, ending the dynasty of Hammurabi and reshuffling Near Eastern power.
In 1595 BCE, the Hittite king Mursili I launched an audacious long-distance military campaign, marching from Anatolia down the Euphrates to attack and plunder Babylon. This stunning raid ended the Amorite dynasty that Hammurabi had made famous. The resulting power vacuum allowed the Kassites to eventually take control of Babylon, beginning a dynasty that would last over four centuries.
