King Narmer united Upper and Lower Egypt, founding one of history's most enduring civilizations.
Around 3100 BCE, Narmer (possibly the same figure as Menes) conquered Lower Egypt and merged the two kingdoms under a single crown. The famous Narmer Palette, discovered at Hierakonpolis, depicts this victory in vivid carved relief. This unification launched the dynastic period that would define Egyptian civilization for the next three thousand years.
