According to Chinese tradition, Yu the Great founded the Xia dynasty after taming catastrophic floods.
Chinese historical tradition dates the Xia dynasty to around 2070 BCE, making it roughly contemporary with Abraham. The dynasty's legendary founder, Yu the Great, is said to have spent years engineering flood control systems to save his people. While archaeological confirmation remains debated, recent geological evidence of a massive Yellow River flood around 1920 BCE has renewed scholarly interest in the kernel of truth behind the tradition.
