Jesus prepares his disciples for life after he's gone, promising the Holy Spirit and calling them friends.
In his longest recorded teaching, Jesus comforts his anxious disciples. He tells them he's going to prepare a place for them, that he is the way, the truth, and the life. He promises the Holy Spirit will come as their helper, commands them to love one another, and warns them the world will hate them — but to take heart, because he has overcome the world.
On the night before his death, Jesus sits with his disciples and gives them everything they'll need — a destination, an identity, a Helper, and a peace the world can't manufacture. This is the conversation you have when you know your time is almost up.
JohnThe Vine and the Cost of Staying ConnectedJesus used the simplest image — a vine and its branches — to redefine what the spiritual life actually is: not performance, but proximity. Then he stunned his followers by calling them friends, warned them the world would push back, and promised they wouldn't face it alone.
JohnThe Goodbye That Changed EverythingJesus prepares his closest friends for what's coming — persecution, grief, and his departure. But woven through every warning is a promise: the Spirit is coming, sorrow will turn to joy, and nothing in this world gets the final word.
