Isaiah delivers a prophecy to a nervous king — a virgin will conceive a son called Immanuel.
King Ahaz is terrified by an alliance of enemy nations threatening Judah. Isaiah tells him to ask God for a sign, but Ahaz refuses. Isaiah gives one anyway: a virgin will bear a son named Immanuel, meaning 'God with us.' The prophecy becomes one of the most famous messianic passages in the Bible.
