King Uzziah of Judah enjoys a 52-year reign of unprecedented military success — defeating the Philistines breaking down the walls of Gath Jabneh and Ashdod warring against the Arabians at Gurbaal subduing the Mehunites and refortifying Jerusalem and the desert frontier.
2 Chronicles 26 records the military and economic achievements of King Uzziah's long 52-year reign over Judah: "He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah... God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims. And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly. Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate" (2 Chr 26:2-9). The reign was Judah's most prosperous since Solomon — until Uzziah's pride led him to enter the temple to burn incense and he was struck with leprosy.
