Released from guilt and its consequences — pardoned by God's grace
Forgiveness in the OT was mediated through the sacrificial system. In the NT, Jesus' death provides complete forgiveness — "as far as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12). Believers are called to forgive others as they have been forgiven (Ephesians 4:32).
