Israelite military commander from Naphtali who was called by the prophetess Deborah to lead 10,000 soldiers against the Canaanite general Sisera (Judges 4–5). He agreed only if Deborah would accompany him, so she prophesied the final glory would fall to a woman — fulfilled when Jael killed Sisera. Despite his hesitation, Barak is later honored among the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11.
