The Galilee city of refuge and hometown of Barak the war general whom Deborah summoned to defeat Sisera
GalileeKedesh in Naphtali (Kedesh-naphtali) holds a distinguished biblical resume. Designated one of six cities of refuge for the unintentional manslayer (Joshua 20:7), it was also given to the Gershonite Levites (Joshua 21:32). Most famously, the prophetess Deborah summoned Barak the son of Abinoam "out of Kedesh-naphtali" to assemble ten thousand troops on Mount Tabor for the Lord's victory over Sisera (Judges 4:6-10). Later Tiglath-pileser III of Assyria captured the city in his Galilee campaign and deported its people (2 Kings 15:29). The site is identified with Tell Qades in upper Galilee about ten miles north of the Sea of Galilee.
