The man forced to carry Jesus' cross
A man from Cyrene in North Africa who was compelled by Roman soldiers to carry Jesus' cross on the way to Golgotha (Mark 15:21). Mark identifies him as the father of Alexander and Rufus, suggesting his family became known in the early church.
Jesus is nailed to a cross between two criminals, and darkness covers the land as the Son of God dies.
