A Moabite town named alongside Beth-diblathaim in Jeremiahs oracle of judgment
MoabBeth-gamul ("house of recompense") was a Moabite town named in Jeremiah's long catalog of judgment-doomed cities of Moab (Jeremiah 48:23): "And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon." The prophet announces the coming destruction of city after city on the Moabite plateau east of the Dead Sea. The site is identified with Khirbet el-Jumeil southeast of Dibon, where Iron Age ruins preserve the memory of a substantial Moabite town that fell in the Babylonian or earlier Assyrian conquest of Transjordan.
