A Moabite town in Jeremiahs oracle of judgment same site as Baal-meon
MoabBeth-meon was a Moabite town named in Jeremiah's long oracle of judgment against Moab: "And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon" (Jeremiah 48:23). The town is the same site as Baal-meon (Numbers 32:38, 1 Chr 5:8) and Beon (Num 32:3), with the "Beth-" prefix simply replacing the "Baal-" prefix that the Israelites systematically scrubbed from compromised place-names. The site is identified with modern Ma'in southwest of Madaba in central Moab.
