Where Israel defeated Og the giant king of Bashan — one of the conquest's defining victories
BashanHistorically Verified
The site is identified with modern Dara'a in southern Syria. The city is mentioned in Egyptian execration texts and in Eusebius's 4th-century geographical handbook.
The northern Transjordan city where Israel defeated Og, the giant king of Bashan, in one of the conquest's most lopsided victories (Numbers 21:33-35; Deuteronomy 1:4, 3:1-11). Edrei guarded the southern edge of Bashan's basalt highlands. Centuries later, after the conquest, it was allotted to the half-tribe of Manasseh (Joshua 13:31). The city's later identity as Adraa appears in Eusebius and Byzantine sources.
