A Shephelah spring-town in Judah and a separate En-gannim in Issachars Galilee inheritance
Jezreel ValleyEn-gannim ("spring of gardens") names two distinct biblical sites. The first is a Shephelah town in Judah named in Joshua 15:34 in the lowland catalog: "Zanoah, and En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam." The second is a city of Issachar named as a Levitical city in Joshua 19:21 and 21:29 — generally identified with Beth-haggan (modern Jenin) on the southern edge of the Jezreel Valley where the abundant springs gave the town its name. The two sites share only the descriptive name "spring of gardens" — a common toponym for any settlement built around a water source nourishing terraced gardens.
