The spring where the Lord reduced Gideons army from 32,000 to 300 by the way they drank
Jezreel ValleyThe Spring of Harod ("trembling") was the camp of Gideon's army on the northern slope of Mount Gilboa before the great night battle against the Midianite host (Judges 7:1-8). To prevent Israel from boasting "My own hand has saved me," the Lord first sent home the 22,000 who were afraid, then reduced the remaining 10,000 down to 300 by the way they drank — only those who lapped from their cupped hands were kept. With these 300, Gideon launched the famous night attack with trumpets and torches that routed the Midianites. The site is identified with Ain Jalut at the foot of Mount Gilboa — the same spring where the Mamluks defeated the Mongols in 1260.
