Judean village south of Jerusalem — home of Sibbecai the giant-killer
JudeaHistorically Verified
Best identified with Husan, a Palestinian village west of Bethlehem. The modern name preserves the biblical form, and the site has continuous occupation history.
A small Judean village in the hill country south of Jerusalem, mentioned only briefly in the genealogies of 1 Chronicles 4:4 as a descendant of Hur and the "father of Bethlehem." Its main biblical significance comes through Sibbecai the Hushathite — one of David's mighty men who killed the Philistine giant Saph at Gob (2 Samuel 21:18; 1 Chronicles 11:29; 20:4) and commanded the army of 24,000 in the eighth month rotation under David (1 Chronicles 27:11).
