A southern Judean settlement repopulated by returning exiles in the post-exile period
NegevJeshua was a southern Judean settlement repopulated by the returning Judean exiles in the post-exile period, named in Nehemiah's catalog of the southern resettlement: "And at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Beth-pelet, And at Hazar-shual, and at Beersheba, and in the villages thereof" (Nehemiah 11:26-27). The town name (Hebrew "Yeshua" — the same word later transliterated as "Jesus") shares its etymology with the Lord's name. The site is identified with Tell es-Sa'weh in the western Negev between Beersheba and Moladah.
