A Calebite town traced through the genealogical line of Sheva son of Maacah in the southern Judean hill country
JudeaMachbenah appears once in Scripture as a Calebite settlement preserved in the Chronicler's genealogy of Caleb's family: "Maacah, Caleb's concubine, bare Sheber, and Tirhanah. She bare also Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah, and the father of Gibea: and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah" (1 Chronicles 2:48-49). Like many Calebite entries in 1 Chronicles 2, the genealogy reads as a settlement record — each name traces a town back to its founding clan in the southern Judean hill country around Hebron. The exact location of Machbenah remains unidentified by archaeology.
