A Moabite town named in Jeremiahs long oracle of judgment against the cities of Moab
MoabMadmen appears once in Scripture in Jeremiah's sweeping oracle of judgment against the cities of Moab: "Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee" (Jeremiah 48:2). The verse plays on the town's name — "Madmen" can mean "dunghill" in Hebrew — to underscore the humiliation God's judgment will bring. Jeremiah 48 is the longest oracle against any foreign nation in the prophetic books, naming dozens of Moabite cities one by one for destruction. Madmen is generally identified with Khirbet Dimneh on the central Moabite plateau between Dibon and Rabbah-Moab.
