Where Abraham built an altar and received three heavenly visitors near Hebron
JudeaHistorically Verified
A Herodian-era enclosure was dug up at the site in the 1920s. The historian Josephus and early Christian pilgrims both described this place near Hebron.
A place near Hebron associated with the great oaks (or terebinths) of Mamre. Abraham settled here and built an altar to the Lord (Genesis 13:18). It was at Mamre that Abraham received three visitors — two angels and the Lord Himself — who announced that Sarah would bear a son within a year (Genesis 18:1-15). The site became a landmark in the patriarchal narratives, closely linked to Hebron and the cave of Machpelah.
