Moresheth-gath

Moresheth-gath ("possession of Gath") was a small Shephelah village in the foothills of Judah, just inland from the Philistine plain near Gath. It was the hometown of the prophet Micah, "Micah of Moresheth" (Micah 1:1, Jeremiah 26:18). Micah grew up watching imperial powers march along the great coastal highway, and his oracles repeatedly name the towns of his home district as objects of coming judgment (Micah 1:10-16). A century later Jeremiah defended his own ministry by citing the precedent: "Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah... did Hezekiah and all Judah put him to death?" (Jer 26:18-19).
