Mountain range of Edom — the rugged red highlands of Esau's inheritance
EdomHistorically Verified
The mountain range of southern Jordan that was the heart of Edom. The capital cities of Bozrah and Petra are here, and copper-mining and caravan-trading have been documented from the Iron Age forward.
The mountain range of Edom, the rugged red highlands south and east of the Dead Sea given to Esau and his descendants as their inheritance (Genesis 36:8-9; Deuteronomy 2:5). The Lord forbade Israel from taking any of Mount Seir from Esau's descendants during the wilderness journey. Centuries later, when an Edomite coalition attacked Judah, God ambushed the army of Mount Seir against itself and Jehoshaphat's army gathered three days of plunder from their corpses (2 Chronicles 20:10-25). The prophets pronounced ultimate judgment on Mount Seir for its hostility to Israel (Ezekiel 35).
