An Ephraimite town near which John the Baptist baptized at the springs of Aenon because there was abundant water there
SamariaSalim appears once in Scripture as the geographic reference point for John the Baptist's baptismal ministry at the abundant springs of Aenon: "After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. For John was not yet cast into prison" (John 3:22-24). The two ministries — John's at Aenon-Salim and Jesus's in nearby Judea — overlapped for a brief moment before John's arrest, prompting John's famous statement "He must increase, but I must decrease." The site lay in Samaria or northern Judea.
