Salim

Salim appears once in Scripture as the geographic reference point for John the Baptist's baptismal ministry at the abundant springs of Aenon: "After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. For John was not yet cast into prison" (John 3:22-24). The two ministries — John's at Aenon-Salim and Jesus's in nearby Judea — overlapped for a brief moment before John's arrest, prompting John's famous statement "He must increase, but I must decrease." The site lay in Samaria or northern Judea.
