A southern Judean Negev town where David sent Amalekite spoils from his Ziklag victory
NegevSiphmoth appears once in Scripture in the catalog of southern Judean towns to which David sent shares of the recovered Amalekite spoils after his victory at Ziklag: "And to them which were in Bethel, and to them which were in south Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir, And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa" (1 Samuel 30:27-28). The gifts cemented loyal alliances across the southern Judean clans before David's ascent to the throne at Hebron. The town is also identified with the place from which Zabdi the Shiphmite came — the chief vinedresser over David's royal wine cellars (1 Chronicles 27:27).
