God's house in Jerusalem — from Solomon's gold-covered original to Herod's expansion
The permanent house of God in Jerusalem. Solomon built the first Temple around 957 BC (1 Kings 5-8). The Babylonians destroyed it in 586 BC. A second was built after exile and expanded by Herod. The Romans destroyed it in AD 70.
