Abraham and his nephew Lot have so much livestock that the land can't support them both, so they part ways.
Their herdsmen keep fighting over grazing land, so Abraham gives Lot first pick of the territory. Lot chooses the lush Jordan Valley near Sodom — which looks like paradise but turns out to be a terrible decision. Abraham stays in Canaan, and God reaffirms the land promise.
