A Syrian army surrounds Dothan to capture the prophet Elisha, but God reveals an army of fire on the hillsides — and then strikes the Syrians with blindness.
The king of Aram keeps losing battles because Elisha is supernaturally relaying his battle plans to Israel's king. Furious, he sends a massive army by night to surround Dothan and capture the prophet. Elisha's servant wakes up terrified at the sight of chariots and horses encircling the city. Elisha prays, and the servant's eyes are opened — the hills are full of horses and chariots of fire protecting them. Then Elisha prays again, and the Syrian army is struck with blindness. He leads them straight into Samaria, where their eyes are opened to find themselves at the mercy of the Israelite king. Elisha tells the king to feed them and send them home — and the Syrian raids on Israel stop.
