Obadiahs closing oracle promises that the captivity of Jerusalem currently exiled in Sepharad will return to repossess the cities of the southern Negev — and saviors will come up on Mount Zion to judge Mount Esau once the kingdom is the Lords.
Obadiah 1:19-21 closes the shortest book in the Hebrew Bible with a vision of restoration following the Edomite betrayal of fallen Jerusalem: "And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south. And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the Lord's." Sepharad's exact location is debated — traditional Jewish interpretation linked it with Spain (whence "Sephardic" Jews), while modern scholars more commonly identify it with Sardis in Lydia or Saparda in northwestern Media.
