Joshuas catalog of Dans tribal allotment names a string of inner coastal-plain towns — Ithlah Jehud Bene-berak Gath-rimmon and Me-jarkon — that filled the Sharon corridor between Aijalon and the Mediterranean.
Joshua 19:40-46 continues the Danite allotment catalog with the inner coastal-plain cluster: "And Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Jethlah, And Elon, and Thimnathah, and Ekron, And Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath, And Jehud, and Bene-berak, and Gath-rimmon, And Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border before Japho." Pressed by Amorite resistance the tribe of Dan eventually abandoned this coastal corridor and migrated north to capture Laish-Dan — but the Joshua-era catalog preserves the names of seventeen Danite cities scattered across the Aijalon-Sharon plain.
