A common biblical name — most notably a king of Judah also called Uzziah
open_in_newMultiple people share this name in Scripture. The most prominent is King Azariah of Judah, also known as Uzziah, who reigned 52 years and was struck with leprosy for burning incense in the Temple (2 Kings 15, 2 Chronicles 26). Another Azariah is the Hebrew name of Abednego, one of Daniel's three friends in Babylon. The name means 'the LORD has helped.'
Two Kings, Two Endings
2 Kings 14:15-22Azariah, just sixteen years old, is installed as king of Judah after his father Amaziah's assassination — his early act of rebuilding the port city of Elath signaling an immediate effort at restoration.
The King Who Did Right — Mostly
2 Kings 15:1-7Azariah is introduced as the Judean king whose fifty-two-year reign opens the chapter — faithful overall, but unable or unwilling to remove the High Places that kept drawing people away from pure worship.
