One of the two Midianite kings hunted across the Jordan with Zebah and executed by Gideon for the murder of his brothers at Tabor
Zalmunna and his fellow king Zebah are the two surviving Midianite monarchs of Judges 8, hunted by Gideon to the eastern desert outpost of Karkor and brought back to Ophrah for execution. The narrative gives Zalmunna a haunting taunt as Gideon hesitated before striking — when Gideon told his eldest son Jether to kill them and the boy was afraid, Zalmunna said "Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength" (Judges 8:21), provoking Gideon to do the deed himself. Psalm 83:11 later invokes their fate as a model of divine judgment against Israel's enemies.
