One of the four Levitical cities of Benjamin allotted to the priestly sons of Aaron
BenjaminAlmon (called Alemeth in the parallel list at 1 Chronicles 6:60) was one of four Levitical cities allotted to the Aaronide priestly line within Benjamin, alongside Gibeon, Geba, and Anathoth (Joshua 21:18). Like the other Aaronide cities, Almon was assigned so the priests — who received no tribal territory of their own — could be scattered throughout Israel within walking distance of the population they served. Almon is identified with Khirbet Almit about 1.5 km northeast of Anathoth (Jeremiah's hometown), placing it just north of Jerusalem in the Benjamin highlands a few hours' walk from the Temple.
