A town in the Judean hill country south of Hebron
Judean Hill CountryAnim was a town in the hill country district of Judah's inheritance, named in the catalog of Joshua 15:50: "And Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim, And Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages." The cluster of small hill-country towns includes well-known sites (Goshen, Holon, Giloh) and obscure ones; Anim is generally identified with Khirbet Ghuwein near the modern village of es-Semu'a (biblical Eshtemoh), south of Hebron in the highlands that border the Negev. The Madaba Map preserves the name as Anaia in the Byzantine period.
