A Calebite settlement preserved in the Chroniclers genealogy of Judah
Judean Hill CountryBeth-gader ("house of the wall") was a small Judahite settlement named in the Calebite genealogy of 1 Chronicles 2:51: "Salma the father of Bethlehem, Hareph the father of Beth-gader." Like Atroth-beth-joab, Bethlehem, and Netophah in the same genealogy, Beth-gader belongs to the network of small farming communities around Bethlehem that the Calebite-Bethlehemite clan founded or maintained. The site is generally connected with Geder or Gedor of the Judean hill country, though the exact identification remains uncertain.
