Aegean coastal port where Paul met his ship after walking twenty miles overland from Troas
Asia MinorHistorically Verified
Modern Behramkale on the Turkish coast. The Temple of Athena on the acropolis is one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples, and the Roman-era harbor and walls are still visible.
A coastal city in northwest Asia Minor (modern Behramkale, Turkey) overlooking the Aegean opposite the island of Lesbos. On Paul's third missionary journey returning to Jerusalem, his companions sailed from Troas around Cape Lectum to Assos, but Paul chose to walk the twenty-mile coastal road and join the ship at Assos. From there they sailed together to Mitylene (Acts 20:13-14). The brief detour suggests Paul wanted solitary time to walk and pray before the long voyage back through Asia.
