Greek port at the southwestern tip of Asia Minor where Paul's ship struggled against contrary winds toward Rome
Asia MinorHistorically Verified
Ancient site at Tekir on the Datça Peninsula in Turkey. Famous in antiquity for Praxiteles' Aphrodite statue and a medical school. The Hellenistic harbor and stadium are preserved.
A Greek port city on a peninsula at the extreme southwestern tip of Asia Minor, opposite the island of Cos. Paul's prisoner-transport ship made slow westward progress against contrary winds and "barely made it off Cnidus" before the ship had to give up the direct route to Italy and sail south under the lee of Crete (Acts 27:7). The brief detail captures the dangerous late-season sailing conditions that would soon shipwreck Paul at Malta.
