A boundary marker in the tribal inheritance of Asher in the western Galilee
GalileeBeth-emek ("house of the valley") was a boundary point on the inland frontier of Asher's tribal inheritance in the western Galilee, named in the boundary catalog of Joshua 19:27: "And turneth toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon, and reacheth to Zebulun, and to the valley of Jiphthahel toward the north side of Bethemek, and Neiel." The name preserves the topographical setting — a settlement at the head of a narrow valley running back from the coastal plain into the central highlands. The site is generally identified with Tell Mimas or Khirbet Amka in the western Galilee.
