A town in the tribal inheritance of Issachar in the lower Galilee plain
GalileeRemeth appears once in Scripture in Joshua's catalog of the sixteen cities of Issachar's tribal inheritance: "And the fourth lot came out to Issachar... And Rabbith, and Kishion, and Abez, And Remeth, and En-gannim, and En-haddah, and Beth-pazzez" (Joshua 19:17-21). The town occupied the fertile Jezreel Valley and the lower Galilee plain between Mount Tabor and the Carmel range — the agricultural breadbasket of ancient Israel. Remeth is generally identified with the same site as the later Ramoth-Issachar (1 Chronicles 6:73) and ultimately the Hellenistic-era city of Ramith in the upper Jordan Valley region of lower Galilee.
