A Judean hill country town in the catalog south of Hebron
Judean Hill CountryEshan ("a support") was a Judean hill country town named in Joshua 15:52 in the catalog of the second hill country district: "Arab, and Dumah, and Eshean, And Janum, and Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah." The Septuagint reads "Soma" here, suggesting a textual variant or scribal slip for the same site. The town lay in the rugged highlands south of Hebron, in the cluster of small farming and shepherding settlements that filled the central Judean spine toward the Negev frontier. The exact location has not been securely identified.
