A coastal-plain town in Asher that the tribe failed to drive out from the Canaanite inhabitants
PhoeniciaHelbah was one of the seven coastal Canaanite cities in Asher's tribal allotment that the tribe failed to dispossess, named in Judges 1:31: "Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob." The town appears only in this single embarrassing summary of Asher's incomplete conquest. The site is uncertain but lay somewhere on the northern coastal plain between Acco and Tyre, in the heartland of Phoenician civilization where Israelite settlement remained perpetually marginal.
