A northern Canaanite city whose king joined Jabin of Hazor's coalition against Joshua
GalileeMadon was the seat of King Jobab and one of the four allied Canaanite kingdoms — together with Hazor, Shimron, and Achshaph — that Jabin king of Hazor summoned into a massive coalition at the Waters of Merom to crush Joshua and the invading Israelites (Joshua 11:1-9, 12:19). Joshua came upon them suddenly at the springs of Merom, struck them down, and pursued them as far as Greater Sidon and Misrephoth-maim and the Valley of Mizpeh to the east — utterly defeating the coalition and burning Hazor itself. The site of Madon has been debated since antiquity; the most widely accepted identification is Qarn Hattin (also called Madin) near the famous Horns of Hattin west of the Sea of Galilee. The town's strategic position above the upper Jordan made it a natural rallying point for any northern coalition.
