After the Philistines returned the captured Ark Israel brought it up to the house of Abinadab on the hill at Kiriath-jearim where it stayed for twenty years until David came to fetch it.
1 Samuel 7:1-2 records that after the Philistines returned the captured Ark of the Covenant, "the men of Kiriath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord. And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kiriath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord." The town (also called Baalah or Baale-judah) became the Ark's long-term resting place until David came to fetch it for Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6:2).
